Looks great, I'm feeling strangely thirsty!
It gets even better at night.
What was the city like during Wiener Wiesn last year? I was planning to take a relaxing trip to Vienna after Oktoberfest in Munich this year, only to find out that my targeted dates fall during the Wiener Wiesn in Vienna. Will the whole city be crazy and tourist activities a nightmare? Should I plan my trip to Vienna before going to Munich instead? I'd appreciate your thoughts...
Based on what we saw last year, there was no appreciable increase in the crowds due to Wiener Wiesn. While there are always plenty of tourists in Vienna (November, mid-January to March are the exceptions) September and October are good times to visit. The Prater park where Wiener Wiesn is located is far enough away from the other major sights that, unless you ride the big ferris wheel, you most likely will not even notice it is happening. It's a new event for Vienna and other than the signage and increase in the number of dirndls and lederhosen being worn in the city, I doubt you would even notice it and definitely don't think it would negatively impact your visit. It was pretty warm during Wiener Wiesn last year so bringing clothes suitable for layering (evenings can be cool) is probably a good idea. Welcome to Vienna and I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful time.
Fantastic news. Thanks, you set my mind at ease. I took a look through your site, and you have some great pictures and information. I may have to reach out to you again as I get closer to my visit!
More than happy to help if I can, Kristy. Thanks for your comments. Look forward to hearing from you again.
