The Gasometer Complex

In the Simmering District of Vienna, not far from the airport, stands four beautiful and unusual cylindrical towers, formerly gas storage tanks, that have been transformed into shops, offices and apartments. Built in the late 1800s, and remodeled between 1999 and 2001, Gasometer, as the complex is called, stands as some of the most interesting living and working spaces in Vienna. You might have noticed them in the James Bond movie, The Living Daylights. The concept and renovation has been a hot topic in urban planning and architecture.

I had to show you this photo of a nearby movie theater. I love the colorful facade and find the contrast between the old Gasometer buildings and this new one very interesting and appealing.
